Behind the Stax - Bitchin' Entertainment Newsletter
-August, 2006 Edition
Lost Tricks This month the Artist Spotlight is on piano - driven pop group Lost Tricks. The band originated as the solo identity of singer/keyboardist Trevor Oswalt (of the movie HITCH and TV's 'Third Watch'), who was quickly joined by bassist John Galgano and drummer Agustin Frederic. The Tricks recently completed laying down the tracks to their debut EP which they affectionately coin, "a testament to the roots of pop songwriting."

King of the Blues - Matt O'Ree
Bitchin' Label Ready Artist, Matt O'Ree was crowned Guitarmageddon's "King of the Blues" 2006 on 6/8/06 at "The House of Blues" in Chicago hosted by BB King. In addition to the title, he won a Toyota 2006 Scion, shopping sprees at Guitar Center and Levi's, a trip to Los Angeles, and a one-year endorsement deal with Gibson guitars.
The judging was done by John Mayer, Rick Neilson of Cheap Trick as well as other prominent names in the music industry. The event was hosted by Cheech Marin.
The Holmdel, NJ native has been playing guitar since the age of 13 and has opened for such notable names as Buddy Guy, Kansas, Johnny Winter, Gretchen Wilson, Government Mule, Robin Trower, and others.
Matt hopes his new-found notoriety will present opportunities in the form of a record label and national tour.

Our Internet Radio Watch Is On:
Cygnus Radio this month. I dropped into the chatroom recently and listened to some kickass tunes selected by the station's resident Metal guru Tom Wylde. He played a couple tunes by a maniacal chick who calls herself Purple Pam. This gal performs with reckless abandon and exhibits a sexual vulgarity onstage that I like to call sleezy chic. Take a trip to her website and pull your chair up close to the screen and prepare for a Kick in the Head. Be sure to listen to her rendition of Communication Breakdown.

Favorite CD of the Month: "Jazz Vocalists - Hear & Now"
Several months ago I received an advance promotional copy of "Jazz Vocalists - Hear & Now" that quickly found a permanent place in my collection of favorite CD's. This 36 song jewel will find favor with even the newest of jazz listeners with familiar names like Diana Krall, Linda Ronstadt, Al Jarreau, Joni Mitchell, Norah Jones, and Nancy Wilson as well as to those waxing nostalgic to tunes by jazz icons like Shirley Horn.
Whether you're a jazz fan or a collector of fine music this collection is a must-have with proceeds benefitting the Jazz Alliance International. Available in stores or online.
