Lego and her Family - Pet of the Week

The day we got Miss Lego was such a touching day for my son and I. We had been at a friends house when her husband came home intoxicated and kicked Miss Lego with his steel toed boots off the porch. She screamed and it went through us. Since the dog could not walk on her back leg at all I told my friend that she had to get her to the vet and that I would be back.

When I went back to check on the little abused mat of fur I found her tied out to a dog house and they had not taken her to the vet. I told my friend (which I sure didn't need friends like that) that I was taking Lego and if she didn't let me that I would be calling in the animal welfare. She told me to take her.

We took her to the vet where we learned that she had a broken leg which they wanted to amputate. I decided not to go ahead with an amputation right away, I wanted to wait to see what happened since the leg couldn't be repaired. About six months later, a lot of love and rub downs, she began to use her leg as if there had never been a problem.

Lego became our life and we named her Lego because my son was young and carried her everywhere. Her legs were so little he felt bad when she would be outside. We had her for about 18 years and she was 22 years old when she passed. She always got a lot of exercise and loved to go six wheeling with us, she enjoyed us as much as we did her. Art (daddy) took her for ice cream and out to the lake all the time to watch the ducks and geese. She had a ball in life and loved to watch the chipmunks and squirrels. She would sit for hours and wait. Her favorite toy was a chicken.

We got King and Princess, the Saint Bernards when they were just babies. We took Lego along to make sure she wanted new babies in her life. We thought if we brought babies in she would have more energy. She was starting to slow down and I knew if she had other animals around she would be up and playing again. She was used to being on the farm with us and always had animals around. When we moved to the mountains she all of a sudden had no one but us to play with. She took to the pups right away. Their favorite foods are chicken and steak, their favorite toy is a stuffed animal that they play tug of war with. They grieved for Lego for about two months but lucky for them, they have each other and play well together. They are our children and the love of our lives. They walk between three and eight miles a day and when they get tired, they get on the back of the six wheeler and get a ride home.

editor's note I'd also like to mention Onyx in this feature. When talking to Cindy about her pets, she mentioned Onyx, a little dog belonging to her son and daughter in law. It was easy to sense that Onyx was a very treasured part of this family as well.

Lego and Onyx, you will live in the hearts and memories of your human family forever.
